The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced Monday’s launch of MTA Service Alerts, a new personalized application for transit customers. It provides information on operating schedules, “including delays, reroutes, and cancellations,” via SMS or email, and gives riders “maximum control over when and how to receive service updates. Customers can choose the day of the week and time periods for alerts. . . . Alerts are managed through a new subscription center, where customers can also sign up for MTA newsletters. . . .” The authority noted that elevator and escalator alerts and MTA Bridges and Tunnels alerts remain available through its legacy MyMTAAlerts system.
