Oregon's Proposed Toll Programs Have Broad Aims

In a Business Tribune contributed column, Oregon DOT Director Kris Strickler describes how the I-205 Toll Project now undergoing study and public vetting, as well as ODOT’s broader Regional Mobility Pricing Project, could benefit the entire community, including people who wouldn’t use the proposed new toll lanes. He notes that in addition to ameliorating traffic congestion, electronic tolling programs can advance climate goals, provide a sustainable source of infrastructure funding, and support alternate and multimodal transportation projects.

Del Rio International Toll Bridge Reopens

Associated Press reports, US Customs and Border Protection permitted passenger vehicle “trade and travel operations” to resume at the Del Rio, Texas, international toll bridge as of Saturday afternoon. They said cargo traffic will be allowed to resume this morning. The bridge was closed for over a week as thousands of Haitians gathered beneath the span hoping to obtain asylum in the US. “Federal and local officials said no migrants remained at the makeshift encampment as of Friday, after some of the nearly 15,000 people were expelled from the country and many others were allowed to remain in the U.S., at least temporarily, as they try to seek asylum.”
