Pennsylvania Turnpike Gets IBTTA's Top Award for Creating Innovative Monitoring Apps

IBTTA announced that the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) has received the association’s 2019 President’s Award for Toll Excellence for the development of a suite of web-based applications, “Catch it Early, Act, Analyze and Review,” that allow traffic operations staff to identify and respond promptly to incidents that pose safety risks or interfere with traffic flow. PTC was one of six tolling agencies recognized for achievement earlier this year in the running for the premier IBTTA award. In his expression of gratitude for the recognition, Mark Compton, the turnpike’s CEO, stated, “Our key guiding principles at the PA Turnpike include safety, innovation and customer service, and this suite of apps is remarkable because it envelopes them all.”

New Jersey and Maryland Bridge Agency Projects Cause Traffic Slowdowns

Lehighvalleylive.com reports, I-78 westbound near Phillipsburg, New Jersey, will continue to be restricted to one lane overnight this week. “The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission said the lane closures are for crews to repair potholes and deteriorated asphalt joints; for road striping; and to replace reflective markers on the highway in Warren County.”

The Maryland Transportation Authority reminded motorists that they can expect to experience  major delays on the William Preston Lane (Chesapeake Bay) Bridge beginning today, when “two-way operations (when one lane of eastbound traffic travels on the westbound span) cease in preparation for the . . . $27 million deck rehabilitation project. MDTA had initially announced the two-year Bay Bridge project would begin early in September, but the Hogan Administration was able to work with the contractor to maintain three lanes westbound for commuters and beachgoers through the last weekend of September.”
