Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade Will Briefly Delay NYC Congestion Pricing System Installation

Patch New York City reports, in order to keep the parade route clear for towering balloons, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will wait until after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to install tolling equipment on Central Park West and 60th Street. A new work schedule has not been set. The installation is part of MTA’s preparation for next spring’s anticipated rollout of the Manhattan congestion pricing plan. In future years, the equipment will be temporarily removed from the parade route — as is already the custom with streetlights, signs and other streetscape components. The cost of temporary removal and replacement is factored into the $507 million toll system contract.
