Indiana Toll Road Concessionaire Completes Ramp Project Ahead of Schedule
The Indiana Toll Road Concession Company (ITRCC) announced that an Exit 10 ramp construction project that began in March is substantially complete, and “key project milestones” have been met 30 days ahead of schedule. The project location is close to the Gary/Chicago International Airport. Although most traffic restrictions have been lifted, ITRCC advised motorists to exercise caution while crews remain on-site doing finishing work. It added, “An upgrade to the lighting infrastructure within the project area is planned for later this winter. Short-term lane closures may be needed to complete these remaining components of the project.”

Forbes.com contributor Richard Bishop reports on the recently announced partnership between Transurban Group and California-based Plus, an autonomous driving software company. The article explores the significance of pairing smart road technology with SAE Level 4 autonomous trucks to advance development of self-driven commercial transportation. Bishop notes that “[c]ompared to past connected-vehicle plays, there are some new and interesting aspects to their approach.” His discussion of connected vehicle technology includes some historical context, as well as an update on the Cavnue-Michigan DOT project on I-94 outside Detroit that employs digital roadway technology to, among other things, demonstrate its capability to support autonomous vehicle traffic.
