Florida Governor Issues Hurricane Recovery Update
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued an update yesterday morning on Hurricane Ian recovery conditions and operations. As of that time, inspections of all accessible State-owned bridges had been completed and FDOT was continuing to assist with inspections of locally-owned bridges. Ninety-seven percent of cut and toss operations statewide had also been completed. Scroll down to “Infrastructure” for additional information on bridge and roadway conditions.
DeSantis separately announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) yesterday approved an amendment of the September 29 Major Disaster Declaration that extends assistance to three additional counties, Brevard, Orange, and Osceola. Among other things, the declaration provides federal funds for both emergency and permanent work and public infrastructure.

Dhaka Tribune reports, Bangladesh’s prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, yesterday presided via teleconference over the opening of two new toll bridges, the Madhumati Bridge in the country’s southwest Narail District, and the Nasim Osman Bridge in central Naryanganj District. “The two bridges will boost local and international trade, as they not only will connect the districts of Bangladesh, but also neighbouring countries such as India, Nepal and Bhutan in the near future,” the prime minister stated. Both spans received construction financing from the governments of Japan and Saudi Arabia.
The Business Standard also covers the opening of the bridges.
Dhaka Tribune notes that 217 crore BDT (approximately US$21.3 million) in tolls have been collected since the country’s landmark Padma Multipurpose Bridge opened in June. (The new Nasim Osman bridge is expected to improve travel via the Padma span between Chittagong, Bangladesh’s second largest city, and other parts of the country.)
