Illinois Tollway Prepares To Shift I-294 Into Winter Construction Configuration

Yesterday, the Illinois Tollway Authority announced that access to its to the Hinsdale Oasis will be limited through mid-November due to continuing work on the $4 billion Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294) reconstruction project. Over the next few weeks, weather permitting, crews will be installing lights, constructing pavement and walls, and doing utility and drainage work around the service facility. Traffic headed from I-55 to northbound I-294 will not have access to the oasis, but its services will be accessible to I-294 motorists. Related work will require some northbound I-294 overnight lane closures this week. Once the early November projects are finished, traffic will shift into its winter construction configuration.

Slow Buyer Demand Changes EV Manufacturers' Plans And Leads To Stock Losses

“Top executives of Ford, General Motors and Mercedes-Benz all addressed concerns over waning demand for electric vehicles [last] week, as the major automakers navigate losses and price wars amid an EV push that not enough consumers are buying,” FOXBusiness reports. The article includes comments from the leaders of several carmakers that are taking actions such as withdrawing financial forecasts, scaling back production, adjusting prices and exploring production efficiencies.

FOXBusiness reports separately that shares in Ford dropped 12 percent last Friday after its EV unit reported significant losses for the second quarter in a row. And Reuters reports that shares of Tesla lost about 5 percent of their value Monday on news that a critical battery supplier was cutting production due to a global cooling in EV sales. Tesla CEO Elon Musk places a lot of the blame on high interest rates making it hard for consumers to afford the steep price tag for EVs.

“Car and Driver” notes that Honda last week backed out of its $5 billion partnership with GM to develop affordable EVs.
