A Deep Look at the Boom in DFW Toll Roads and NTTA TollTag Revenue

Fort Worth Star-Telegram takes a deep dive on the growth of metro area toll roads and toll spending. “Today,” it reports, “there are about 4.6 million cars with TollTags affixed to their windshields. . . . The North Texas Tollway Authority, which owns the TollTag brand and electronically processes toll payments even on roads the agency doesn’t own, expects to collect about $720 million in revenue from TollTags during the 2018 fiscal year.”

Work Begins on NY Thruway's AET Project at Grand Island Crossings

WKBW reports, “Construction has begun on high-speed, open road, cashless tolling locations that will replace toll barriers at the [New York Thruway’s] Grand Island crossings in March 2018. The work marks phase one of the transition to cashless tolling on Grand Island which is projected to save drivers approximately 200 minutes per year once fully operational.”

TxDOT's $8.1 Billion, I-35 Managed Toll Lanes Proposal Earns Business Support

Austin Business Journal looks at TxDOT’s new proposal to expand I-35 (dubbed the “Capital Express” project), an $8.1 billion plan to add two managed toll lanes in both directions on the highway. The newspaper adds that the proposal already has the support of the city’s chamber of commerce.

TxDOT's SH 99 Widening Proposal Opens Opportunities for New FBCTA Connectors

Houston Chronicle reports on public reaction to TxDOT’s proposal to widen a 6.6-mile segment of SH 99 (the Grand Parkway) between Interstate 10 and FM 1093 from a four-lane to a six-lane divided highway. The article notes that if TxDOT proceeds with the project, the Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority is considering building direct connectors from the Westpark Tollway to the Grand Parkway.
