Fitch: US Toll Roads Generally Recorded "Strong" Volumes In 2023

Fitch Ratings, in the latest update of its U.S. Airports & Toll Roads Traffic Monitor, finds that traffic performance remained strong during 2023. “Toll road traffic across the Fitch Traffic Monitor portfolio ended 2023 with traffic at 102% of 2019 levels for the year. Traffic on over half of the toll roads that Fitch tracks ended the year with annual traffic above their 2019 levels, with only three toll roads still below 90% of pre-pandemic levels.” Airport traffic also trended upward at nearly the same rate, and about 60 percent of Fitch-monitored facilities recorded annual traffic totals above their pre-pandemic levels.
