Illinois Tollway Spotlights Opportunities for Disadvantaged and Veteran-Owned Firms
The Illinois Tollway Authority hosted a “Seize the Opportunity” information and networking event on Friday in Chicago. More than than 300 business, including more than 200 that have not previously explored work with the authority, received information about the procurement process, state certification and registration requirements for disadvantaged business enterprises and forthcoming contract opportunities. “We are expanding our efforts to reach out to and create opportunities for new and diverse companies to join the pool of businesses working for the Tollway,” said Executive Director José Alvarez in a news release.

WAMU notes, a new report from the Office of the District of Columbia Auditor concludes that the district “could be doing more to cut [greenhouse gas] emissions, particularly in the transportation sector,” and it specifically suggests adoption of a downtown congestion pricing program. The article adds that DC council members have been looking into congestion pricing for almost a year.

Manila Standard reports, Philippine transportation officials are taking their time reviewing an unsolicited private proposal to build a toll road to connect the North Luzon Expressway and the Manila-Cavite Expressway. NLEX, the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation subsidiary, said it is still pursuing approval for the estimated PHP 100 billion (USD 1.97 billion) project it submitted to the government over a year ago. The article notes that Metro Pacific is already engaged in two major toll road construction projects in Luzon.
