OK Turnpike Issues Contract To Complete Systemwide Cashless Conversion
According to its March 5 board meeting wrap-up (scroll down to “Cashless conversion”), the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) board approved a contract to finish the transformation of its entire network to a cashless, electronic collection system by the end of 2024. Robinson Construction, LLC, received a $5.6 million contract to upgrade the infrastructure of the Will Rogers Turnpike (I-44), the last OTA facility to undergo conversion to the new system. OTA stated the ongoing conversions of two other facilities — the Turner (I-44) and Indian Nation (SH-375) Turnpikes — are on track to be completed by the end of the year. 2024.

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is ready to launch work on the initial, $140 million segment of the first phase of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Eastbound Deck Replacement Project. According to a motorist update released today, weather permitting, crews will take advantage of regular daytime off-peak lane closures to prepare for overnight night work. “[W]hen the eastbound span closes at night, two-way traffic . . . will [commence] on the westbound span. Crews will remove at least one section of the deck and replace it with a new pre-cast section during the same overnight shift. Temporary joint-connection grates will be utilized for this crucial work, allowing for travel lanes to reopen each morning. . . .” MDTA’s board approved the project’s funding in late 2022. Work is projected for completion in spring 2025. The Eastbound span is 71 years old.
