DFW Toll Authority Will Double Toll-By-Mail Rates July 1

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) announced today that tolls will increase effective July 1 pursuant to its policy on biennial rate adjustments. TollTag customers will pay an average of just one additional penny per mile (21 cents). However, drivers without a transponder will start having to pay double the TollTag rate, whereas the current surcharge is just fifty percent. NTTA stated, “Increasing the ZipCash [pay-by-mail] toll rate helps offset the rising cost to collect tolls and the risk associated with the uncertainty of receiving payment from ZipCash users who choose not to have a TollTag. It also helps provide fairness among drivers who use NTTA toll roads.” The authority noted that in addition to its current offering of $20 and $40 prepaid TollTag accounts, it will introduce a $10 option on a pilot basis for the benefit of  infrequent customers.

Ohio Turnpike Customers Find Fun, Food And Information At Plaza Events

Fremont News-Messenger reports on last Friday’s kickoff of this year’s Ohio Turnpike customer appreciation events. One traveler who stopped at the Commodore Perry Service Plaza intending to take a “quick break,” instead encountered “state troopers, informational booths, a hot dog stand and vendors giving free samples,” an armful of which she carried off as gifts for her grandchildren. Turnpike spokesman Charles Cyrill says these annual happenings create fun and relaxed opportunities for staff of the commission and partner agencies to engage with customers and spread information about safety initiatives and job opportunities. It will bookend last week’s event by holding another at the Commodore Perry plaza on September 1, the Friday before Labor Day.

The commission has more events scheduled this year at: Blue Heron Service Plaza (Sandusky County) on June 30; Middle Ridge Service Plaza (Lorain County) on July 21; Indian Meadow Service Plaza (Williams County) on August 4; and Vermilion Valley Service Plaza (Lorain County) on November 22.
