PANYNJ Officials Justify Proposed Toll and Fare Increases

In a Daily News op-ed, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey officials Kevin O’Toole and Rick Cotton explain why proposed toll and fare hikes are necessary: there’s a price to pay for our nation’s neglect of infrastructure maintenance. PANYNJ, they say, needs “an unprecedented level of investment” to “rebuild the region’s infrastructure and transform aging assets into world-class facilities that meet 21st century expectations and better handle the record volumes we continue to see.” They also note that the increases are in amounts necessary to keep pace with inflation.
