Kansas Turnpike Tollbooth Demolition Has Started

The Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) has started to remove the tollbooths made obsolete by its recent conversion to cashless tolling, the Lawrence Journal-World reports. On Tuesday, crews using a crane dismantled the North Lawrence toll plaza and trucked away the pieces. At Exits 197, 202 and 204, KTA plans to start pavement restoration work once structures and barriers are fully removed. KTA’s Rachel Bell says the dismantling process will go on for about 18 months across the turnpike and closures aren’t anticipated.
