NC Turnpike Official Says Customers Exchange Tolls For Time
WTVD reports on the January 1, inflation-based adjustment of Triangle Expressway toll rates and what the motoring public gets for its investment in North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA) facilities. “What we do at the turnpike authority, and with a project like this, is to provide people a travel alternative,” explains Dennis Jernigan, NCTA Chief Deputy Engineer. “Instead of sitting in congestion, yes, you pay a fee, but you’re buying time back in your life. Who couldn’t use more of that?” The article also looks at the progress of the NCTA project to extend the expressway.

Hindustan Times’ HT Auto reports, “Toll collection at national and state highways across India in December was at an all-time high of ₹3,679 crore [approximately US$494 million]. This means the daily toll collection through FASTag across India was ₹119 crore [approximately US$16 million], reveals the data by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).” The surge in payments through the electronic collection system is attributed to an increase in nationwide economic activity and the cessation of months-long farmer strikes that blocked toll collection at some northern state tollways.
