Transurban Offers Incentive For Australian Customers To Get Vaccinated

Transurban today announced an initiative to support Australia’s COVID-19 vaccination drive. Customers of the company’s Linkt electronic toll collection system will have chances starting next month to enter a competition to win prizes — including new electric vehicles, a year’s worth of free toll travel and $100 toll credits — if they are vaccinated. “Whether it’s a family road trip or a drive across town to see friends, people want to get out and about again, and supporting the vaccine rollout will help us all get there,” Transurban stated in a news release.

AP: "Pandemic Set Off Deadly Rise In Speeding That Hasn’t Stopped"

Associated Press reports on the outbreak of speeding that is endangering highway travelers this summer. “There is continued concern about the rise in speeding and aggressive driving as we enter the heart of the vacation travel season and increased traffic volumes on the highways,” a New York State Police spokesman tells AP. “People are flying down the roads. It’s just ridiculous,” according to a Maine State Police officer. AP notes that citations issued by the California Highway Patrol in the first half of 2021 for speeding in excess of 100 MPH “were nearly double pre-pandemic levels, and the number of tickets for reckless driving citations grew, as well.”
