Indiana Toll Road Operator's I-90 Bridges Rehab Project Remains On Schedule

WIMS reports, the Indiana Toll Road Concession Company (ITRCC) announced that its Northwest Indiana Bridge Rehabilitation Project remains on schedule and is making “great progress.” (In March, the company launched the three-phase project to improve bridge infrastructure in need of upgrading after 56 years of use.) ITRCC said work was completed on the 108th Street entrance ramp to I-90 east, which it reopened to traffic during the weekend. Improvement of the exit 10 westbound exit ramp is also finished, and it is scheduled to reopen today. Project work will be halted during the upcoming Labor Day weekend, but another phase of construction will begin on September 6.

Hong Kong Converts Another Tunnel To Open-Road Tolling

RTHK reports, “Traffic at the Eastern Harbour Crossing was generally smooth [yesterday] after it switched to HKeToll, Hong Kong’s [open-road] electronic road toll system. The Transport Department had closed the tunnel to traffic between 4am and 5am to facilitate the transition. The tunnel has since reopened [in a new reduced-lane configuration]. . . . With both the Cross-Harbour Tunnel . . . and the Western Harbour Crossing . . . already operating HKeToll for a number of weeks, officials were familiar with the switch-over.” Two more tunnels, Tate’s Cairn and Aberdeen, are scheduled for conversion later this year.
