Philadelphia Bans Use, Sale And Production Of License Plate Concealment Gadgets
Philly Voice.com reports, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker (D) signed into law a municipal code section that outlaws the purchase, use, production or sale within the city of any device that allows a driver to “flip” a vehicle’s license plate automatically. Violations carry a $2,000 fine. The city council unanimously approved a bill carrying the new ordinance last month. “Councilmembers said license plate flippers allow drivers to avoid police investigations, tolls and parking tickets and often are used by illegal street racers. License plate flippers have been banned in Texas and Washington, and Tennessee is considering legislation that would ban them. New York City has cracked down on the sale of license plate covers.”

WIBW reports, when the Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) starts up its new DriveKS cashless toll collection system on July 1, manual toll collection jobs will disappear. However, according to authority CEO Steve Hewitt, almost all toll collectors have been able to make or plan their own transition during the four-year technology implementation process. “We learned that nearly 70 percent of toll collection staff would be at retirement age by this point in time,” Hewitt said. “In 2019, KTA implemented an official workforce transition plan to minimize the impact on our staff. We’ve accomplished that and were happy to report that many collectors have moved into other positions at KTA.”
In describing the new system, Hewitt noted that it involved installing twenty-one toll gantries across the 236-miles of Kansas Turnpike roadway.
