San Francisco Bay Bridge Congestion Tolls Are Indefinitely Suspended
KPIX reports, “The Bay Area Toll Authority voted [yesterday] to suspend weekday congestion pricing on the Bay Bridge indefinitely during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. . . . Effective [today], tolls for two-axle vehicles crossing the bridge will remain at $6 all day and at all times.” KPIX notes, “Vehicle traffic has dropped significantly across all seven state-owned toll bridges in the Bay Area due to the pandemic and the resulting local and state shelter-in-place orders. Traffic on the Bay Bridge specifically has fallen by about half compared to last year since . . . March 17.”

“Global Construction Review” reports, “The government of Uganda has applied for a loan of $328m from the African Development Bank and the French Agency for Development to build its flagship smart motorway between the capital, Kampala, and the port of Jinja . . . , a distance of about 77km [almost 48 miles]. The six-lane digital toll road is expected to cost up to $1.5bn, with the remainder of the funding to be supplied by the consortium building the route and the Ugandan government’s transport budget.” The article notes that the government has shortlisted four international consortia interested in building the highway without yet issuing a contract.

The Jakarta Post reports, state-owned highway operator PT Jasa Marga will comply with a government directive and close the Jakarta-Cikampek II elevated toll road during this week’s holiday marking the end of the Ramadan fast. National officials are attempting to keep people home in order to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
