Ecotoll App Can Now Be Used To Pay Washington State Tolls
Ecotoll, the mobile phone toll payment app from transportation technology developer ClearRoad, announced that its coverage area has expanded to include Washington State. The company noted that with this launch it has introduced a new backdating feature that allows drivers to pay for tolls incurred up to three days prior to their adoption of the app. ClearRoad says its goal is to build a nationwide toll payment service in the US.

Transport Topics reports, US Congressman Rick Larsen (D-WA 2), the ranking Democrat on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, cites truck parking and diversified workforce recruitment as priorities for the improvement of national freight operations. In an interview, the lawmaker notes that the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act, introduced last month, would create a $755 million competitive grant program to add parking spaces and improve existing parking areas for trucks. In regard to what the American Trucking Associations has estimated is a shortage of 78,000 drivers, Larsen says he encourages every company and leader in the transportation industry to adapt innovative workforce recruitment and development practices.”Every company,” he states, “should be looking at the new pool of people that are available to hire. Every union should be looking at this new pool of people to be able to recruit for good union jobs. Every person who represents workers or the workforce or employers needs to be thinking more broadly about how to attract this larger, more diverse, demographic in the United States into these good-paying jobs.”

AASHTO Journal reports, Roger Millar — Washington State’s transportation secretary and current president of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) — was named to the Resilient Roads Roundtable’s semiannual list of innovators and influencers. The organization cited Millar’s efforts to “broaden the transportation sector’s view of resilience” to include issues in addition to climate change, such as coming US shifts in US driver demographics (an aging population is expected to drive less) and economic activity. The roundtable was formed in 2020 by construction and engineering associations, and leaders of public and private transportation entities. Its self-described mission is “to encourage the adoption of Life Cycle Cost Analysis and the setting of performance expectations for road building and maintenance initiatives to build more enduring roads for less cost – both upfront and over the long-term.”
