Kapsch TrafficCom implements the EcoTrafiX™ platform with a commitment towards an integral, collaborative and analytical model as part of its Smart City strategy.
Vienna, 5 December 2017 – Kapsch TrafficCom, global supplier of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) technology, services and solutions, has been awarded the management of the MOVIMA (Malaga Traffic Mobility Observatory) Traffic Regulation System at the Malaga Management Centre, as well as management of the MOVIMA access control system to the Historical City Centre. The integrated mobility management system, developed by the Council with Kapsch technology, forms part of the city’s Smart City strategy and will help position Málaga at the forefront of urban mobility management.
With a total investment around 5.8 million Euros, the project includes the implementation of Kapsch EcoTrafiX software platform, which will allow, on the one hand, the integration of all the city’s systems for urban mobility and, on the other hand, the real-time publication of data relating to the state of traffic. This will enable citizens and visitors to choose the best transport option for their urban journeys, promoting sustainable, safe and efficient multimode transport.
“We are proud that the City Hall of Malaga, one of the leading smart cities, has trusted us to improve urban mobility management”, André Laux, COO, Kapsch TrafficCom. “This new contract represents an important step forward that evidences our capacity and solid position in the intelligent traffic management solutions sector for Smart Cities”.
An integrated system for urban traffic management
Kapsch will manage the operations and maintenance of the Malaga Control Centre through the integration of all the hardware and information systems in a single Integrated Mobility Operations Centre. This will improve the communications and collaboration between all the systems and agents involved in traffic management. This new focus will reduce the costs stemming from traffic congestion and optimise resource use via more efficient planning, thus helping Malaga raise its game as a Smart City.
Another key benefit of the project, will be the capability to respond to any incident affecting urban roads and mobility, by way of the installation of an Events and Incidents Management module available within EcoTrafiX. Through this the council will be able to reduce response times in the case of events such as roadworks, bottlenecks or accidents, and to establish coordinated solutions and responses with the aim of providing citizens with more secure mobility.
