CTRMA Opens 183 North General Purpose Lanes Ahead Of Schedule

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) announced yesterday that new non-tolled lanes — one in each direction — have opened early on the 183 North Mobility Project corridor in Austin. According to the news release, “This accomplishment brings the total number of non-tolled lanes to four in each direction, . . . and means smoother, more reliable travel for drivers as construction continues on the northwest Austin project.” TxDOT funded the general purpose lane expansion. When CTRMA completes the $612 million project in 2026, the nine-mile US 183 corridor between SH 45 North and the MoPac Expressway will also have two additional express lanes in each direction in the median, plus express lane direct connectors and a collector distributor road connected to MoPac, new ADA-compliant sidewalks, new shared use path connections, and cross-street connections for bicycles and pedestrians.

Illinois Tollway And Major AEC Firms Sign Equity In Infrastructure Pledge

The Bond Buyer (subscription required) reports, on Friday, several prominent public and private entities in metro Chicago signed the Equity in Infrastructure Project (EIP) pledge to improve contracting practices so as to create more prime, joint venture and equity opportunities for US historically underutilized businesses (HUBs). Participants in the signing event included the Illinois Tollway Authority, the Chicago Transit Authority, Parsons Infrastructure North America, Turner Construction, CDM Smith, and WSP USA. “These organizations’ commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion — particularly in engaging historically underutilized businesses — is a testament to the national significance of this initiative,” according to an EIP statement. The organization now has a total of 68 signatories, including New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority and LA Metro. The article notes, “EIP launched in April 2022 led by Denver International Airport CEO Phil Washington and former U.S. deputy transportation secretary John Porcari. They were inspired in part by the Biden administration’s Justice40 order, which commits 40% of federal infrastructure funds to disadvantaged communities and comes amid the record flow of federal dollars under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.” (TRN inserted links in quoted text.)
