Halifax Harbour Bridges Seeks Design And Planning Services For Collection System Conversion
Today, Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB), operator of Nova Scotia’s MacKay and Macdonald toll bridges, issued a request for proposals for planning and design consulting engineering services. The RFP invites qualified engineering proponents to propose services in connection with the planning and design of a new all-electronic tolling system (e-Tolling), including removal of the bridges’ toll plazas, and design of gantries and security gates. See the RFP announcement and the posted tender documents for complete details. The deadline for submitting proposals is Tuesday morning, August 27, 2024.
HHB plans to select an e-Tolling system provider and contractors for infrastructure construction services through separate procurements. HHB states that the goal of the e-Tolling initiative is to “introduce a cutting-edge roadside infrastructure, marking a significant shift from traditional toll collection methods. By embracing full electronic tolling, the project seeks to reduce workplace hazards for HHB staff, enhance services for HHB customers, eliminat[e] the need for physical toll booths and facilitat[e] seamless transactions through either prepaid MACPASS transponders or postpaid video license plate recognition.”
