North Carolina Turnpike Issues RFP For Transponder Management And Fulfillment Services
The North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA), a division of NCDOT, announced the release of a Request for Proposals to provide Transponder Management and Fulfillment Services. NCTA is seeking proposals from qualified proposers interested in providing services that include transponder packaging and shipment, retailer management, and transponder order management. A mandatory Pre-Proposal Scope of Services Meeting (online via web conference) is scheduled for Monday, February 19, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM EST. Pursuant to the RFP, interested parties are required to email the NCTA contact to register for the meeting. Houston Public Media reports, Fort Bend County, Texas, officials held a ceremony yesterday to mark the recent opening of a 1.5-mile, approximately $45 million extension of the Fort Bend Parkway Toll Road west of the Sienna Parkway to Sienna Ranch Road. The extension, opened in November 2023, “will make it easier for residents in Sienna — one of Fort Bend’s largest master-planned communities — to access the [Harris County Toll Road Authority’s] Sam Houston Tollway. . . .” The toll rate for two-axle vehicles with a toll tag is 49 cents, according to the article.
TRN notes, the new facility (designated Segment B2) is one of several planned and completed extensions of the parkway, according to the Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority website.

Bestpass, the payment platform provider that specializes in toll management solutions for commercial fleets, announced a new offering that can increase its customers’ insight into their business activity involving tollway use. Following a Bestpass platform integration with Geotab — the award-winning vehicle telematics solutions provider with a global customer base — Bestpass customers can now access detailed toll data and reporting tools — including “a high-level heat map” feature — within a Geotab account. According to the announcement, the integration means customers “can leverage accurate vehicle data and GPS location through Geotab and match that information with toll charges received from their Bestpass account via the MyGeotab interface. If there’s a discrepancy between vehicle GPS location and the toll a vehicle received, it’s reported. This feature makes it easier for customers to identify and investigate the issue, dispute an inaccurate toll charge or violation, and reduces the risk of disputes over toll charges with drivers and customers.” Bestpass designed its Toll Genius reporting system to enable integration with telematics applications like Geotab’s. As a result, Bestpass customers can now reduce toll costs, manage their vehicles and optimize toll-related business decisions within one integrated offering.
