Fitch Issues Its Latest US Toll Roads Peer Review

Fitch Ratings today released an updated peer review of the US toll roads it rates. “The report exhibits 12 figures and ratios calculated from annual audited financial statements or from supplemental data received directly from the toll roads, along with select forward-looking metrics reflecting Fitch’s base and rating case analysis.” According to an accompanying news release, Fitch finds that the rated entities, which are financed with debt primarily secured by toll revenues, “are on a positive trajectory.” It notes that since issuing its previous review, it has taken only positive rating actions on the analyzed facilities and positively revised the Rating Outlook on five entities. “An overarching theme for the sector across the board has been strong and sustainable traffic,” Fitch states.

WSDOT Engineers Probe Cold Weather's Effect On Tolling Equipment Functionality

KIRO Radio reports, WSDOT tolling operations returned to normal yesterday after an interruption caused by several days of “severe cold” that affected I-405 and SR 167 collection equipment. A department source said the likely cause was freezing of fiber optic cables. KIRO adds, “What’s odd is the deep freeze only impacted 405 and 167 and not [tolling of the SR 99 tunnel or the SR 520 bridge]. WSDOT isn’t sure why only certain cables were impacted. Engineers are searching for the reason. The 167 tolling system has had cold weather issues in the past.”
