Elizabeth River Crossings Toll Relief Program Expands Eligibility For Participation

WTKR reports, during yesterday’s Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization meeting, Virginia DOT announced changes to the Elizabeth River Crossings (ERC) toll relief program that will help more drivers qualify for its benefits. “Starting on Oct. 30, individual drivers making $65,000 or less per year can apply to get 50% off tolls for 2-axle vehicles up to 14 trips per week.” Last year, income eligibility was capped at $50,000, and discounts could be claimed for a maximum of 10 weekly trips. The program is underwritten by Elizabeth River Crossings OpCo (ERC), which will provide $3.3 million in funding for 2024. “(We knew) we would have the ability to support more people and to benefit more the people here in Hampton Roads and that’s why we decided to move the threshold up,” commented ERC chief executive Ana Bonnet, CEO of Elizabeth River Crossings, after the announcement. The program, which has been in operation for several years, now has 11,000 enrollees and a goal to enlist 4,000 more next year.

San Miguel Corporation And Philippine Province Agree To Build New Tolled Expressway

Philippine Daily Inquirer reports, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) and the Philippine province of Pangasinan have signed a concession and joint venture agreement to develop a new toll highway to be called the Pangasinan Link Expressway (PLEx). The 76.8-kilometer (47.7-mile) facility — it is “expected to boost road mobility and economic activities in central and northern parts of Luzon — would stretch from the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx) exit in Binalonan to Alaminos. Groundbreaking on the first of three construction phases is scheduled for next year. The first phase will create a segment of approximately 26.5 miles at an estimated cost of PHP 34.34 billion (approximately USD 618.12 million).

Editor’s Note: This item, corrected on November 13, 2023, originally misstated the name of the proposed new tollway, which will be separate from SMC’s existing TPLEx.

Night Shift And Entertainment Workers Worry About Manhattan Congestion Pricing

NorthJersey.com reports on findings from their reader survey soliciting feedback on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s pending congestion pricing program. “Stagehands, entertainers, musicians and those who work nontraditional hours are the New Jerseyans most concerned about the impacts of congestion pricing, since they have fewer public transportation options overnight.” One person who responded to the survey commented, “We would love to get to New York City in a more environmentally friendly manner like riding a bike or walking but unfortunately the Lincoln Tunnel is the only alternative. There should be more alternatives.”
