USDOT Launches Center Dedicated To Improving Project Delivery
USDOT yesterday announced the launch of the Project Delivery Center of Excellence within its Volpe innovation facility “to help recipients of federal infrastructure funds deliver projects more efficiently and effectively, from concept to completion. The Center will serve as a central resource for innovative practices and will bring project managers together to enable knowledge sharing and peer-to-peer learning.” White House Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu said the center “will be a key nexus for exchanging ideas, knowledge and best practices to continue to improve and make our transportation system better for all.” The center’s initial plans include developing a simplified, high-quality contracting model for recipients to follow; centralizing information on project delivery best practices; and working with engineering trade groups to develop templates and model language for transportation construction contracts.
In conjunction with the center’s launch, USDOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg and University of Oxford Professor Bent Flyvbjerg, the author of How Big Things Get Done and Megaprojects and Risk, participated in a webinar, the first in a series focused on delivering IIJA benefits.
