Kapsch Showcases Innovations In Connected Vehicle Technology At OmniAir Event
Kapsch TrafficCom announced that it submitted its latest connected vehicle (CV) technology to tests at this year’s OmniAir Consortium Florida Plugfest (which wraps up tomorrow at the SunTrax facility). “Tests were conducted in both a laboratory and field setting, confirming the comprehensive safety and functionality of the newest CV equipment the company has been developing,” Kapsch stated. Combining connected vehicles with “advanced data collection and processing platforms at the network edge, and in the cloud, the Kapsch Orchestrated Connected Corridor (OCC) provides real-time traffic management capabilities and insights that support a range of innovative safety and traffic mobility use cases. By deploying OCCs, authorities can start planning for ‘zero accident’ roadways with support for connected autonomous vehicle features and advanced warning of potential hazards on the road that may otherwise cause accidents.”
Kapsch CEO Georg Kapsch delivered the afternoon keynote address during Plugfest’s Connected Mobility Conference yesterday. His remarks emphasized that CV technology has benefits in addition to improving traffic safety. “By connecting vehicles, infrastructure and road users, authorities are given a lever to become active where they used to be reactive. It empowers communities to become safer, reduce cost and also combat the environmental impact of road traffic,” Kapsch observed.
Last week, Kapsch TrafficCom announced that it has developed a comprehensive, secure and deployment-ready CV technology solution through its continued collaboration with cybersecurity firm Microsec. The evolved offering “delivers V2X-PKI security credentialing coupled with cloud-based credential management. The end-to-end solution ensures a simplified approach for roadway operators to scale from pilot to operational secure corridor solutions in both urban and highway market segments.”

ConstructionEquipmentGuide.com reports on a new phase of Rickenbacker Causeway construction. The Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works is executing a second round of infrastructure work to improve mobility and safety for cyclists and pedestrians. The upgrades were planned following auto-bicycle collisions in 2022. (The safety projects are part of the department’s development of a comprehensive master plan for the tolled causeway.)

Fitch Ratings announced the release of a new peer review of Asia-Pacific (APAC) toll roads in its portfolio (subscription required). The analysis covers a diversity of assets, including major networks in Australia, India and China. According to Fitch, “Most companies in the group maintain ratings in the low ‘A’ or high ‘BBB’ categories. These issuers have historically demonstrated resilient revenues, mainly due to inflation-linked price-setting mechanisms and robust demand through the business cycle. The ability to reduce costs, dividends and capex adds to their overall resiliency and flexibility, as witnessed during the pandemic.”
