TransCore And SSI Collaborate To Produce Innovative Tolling And ITS Technology
TransCore and STAR Systems International (SSI) have agreed to collaborate on the development, promotion and sale of next generation readers, antennas and transponders for multi-protocol and interoperable tolling systems. According to a joint news release issued yesterday, the partnership will leverage TransCore’s depth of experience in delivering tolling and ITS systems with SSI’s expertise in vehicle identification and communication technology “to deliver optimal performance and reliability in growing Open Road Tolling, Congestion Pricing, and Express and Managed Lanes systems.” TransCore COO Whitt Hall commented that TransCore’s Infinity Digital Lane Systems “offer the marketplace advanced, proven, and readily deployable toll collection solutions. Developing next-generation reader and transponder products with STAR Systems International’s technology will allow TransCore to continue to raise the bar of performance and customer service in Intelligent Transportation Systems.”

The Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) opened its new administrative facility in Topeka this week, calling it part of the process of transitioning to all-electronic toll collection in 2024. In addition to housing engineering and legal staff, and providing meeting space, the building has a 40-seat call center and a walk-in customer service office, both of which are needed to support a cashless tolling operation. KTA chief executive Steve Hewitt said the collection system conversion is being made in the interests of safety, customer convenience and operational efficiency, adding, “This [new] building helps meet those objectives by expanding KTA’s customer service efforts in northeastern Kansas.” Rachel Bell, KTA Director of Business Services and Customer Relations, noted that “[a]dditional customer services roles will be filled by newly hired employees or current employees transitioning to new roles.” Schwerdt Design Group and Bartlett & West, Hutton Construction, and KTA engineering and maintenance staff worked together on the planning and construction of the building, located at 3918 SW Topeka Boulevard, Topeka.
WIBW covered Tuesday afternoon’s celebration of the building’s opening.
KTA has posted an album of images of the new facility.
