New Hampshire DOT Offers Incentive Payments To Lure New Plow Operators
WMUR reports, New Hampshire DOT is hoping its offer of $5,000 incentive payments will encourage more people to become highway maintenance workers this winter. “State officials said all agencies are struggling to fill positions as people retire. With the winter approaching, the DOT has 187 openings, ranging from plow drivers to supervisors.” A spokesman noted that NHDOT is “trying to fill some positions from within the department, and there are 80 paid volunteers with commercial driver’s licenses in other departments who can take over shifts if needed.”

The Sydney Morning Herald reports, New South Wales government “is facing the threat of a class action from homeowners in Sydney’s inner suburbs who claim their properties have been damaged due to construction of the multibillion-dollar WestConnex motorway,” the network of tolled highways and tunnels under development by a Transurban-led consortium and Australia’s largest infrastructure project. People living above and near the construction corridor “have expressed frustrations over shrinking tunnel depths, construction noise, vibrations, and cracking damage” and a “lack of engagement” by the state government and contractors. The law firm behind the potential lawsuit says the class could include thousands of property owners.
