Washington State Commission Will Decide On Tacoma Bridge Toll Rate Reductions

KOMO reports, the Washington State Transportation Commission will hold a virtual hearing next Tuesday morning, August 23, on the proposed reduction of Tacoma Narrows Bridge tolls. During the meeting, the board will choose one of three options for reducing rates pursuant to state funding legislation passed earlier this year. New rates are scheduled to take effect on October 1.

India May Impose Stricter Highway Construction Quality Control Measures

Mint reports, India “may soon come up with standard operating procedure (SoP) for strict adherence to quality standards by contractors, developers and engineers in construction of roads and highways across the country,” the secretary of the national highways ministry told an industry group. The official commented that quality control has emerged as a major issue in the expansion of India’s highway network, and even major contractors practice “sloppy” quality control measures. He added that the government intends to impose penalties on contractors, developers and engineers who certify substandard work.
