Rhode Island Breaks Ground On $12.9 Million Project Funded By Toll Revenue
Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee (D), joined by members of the state’s congressional delegation and other officials, gathered in Warwick yesterday to break ground on a $12.9 million I-95 and airport connector rehabilitation project. It’s one of the $92 million in RIDOT resurfacing projects made possible this year through the collection of truck tolls. In addition to repaving airport access routes, the project launched yesterday will eliminate hazardous drop-offs and improve pedestrian access and landscaping.

ARTBA’s “Community Impact of the Year” award was conferred on Transurban for having donated $2.3 million over several years to fund quarterly micro-grants for more than 350 organizations in northern Virginia that are “working to protect vulnerable populations, engage our children, ensure a cleaner environment, and strengthen our workforce.”
Transurban recently announced the beneficiaries of a similar grants program it funds in Australia.

Transportation Today reports, “A new consumer survey from AAA has found that nearly 25 percent of Americans would be likely to buy an electric vehicle as their next car, and they’re citing gas prices as the reason why.” (The survey was conducted in February, when AAA reported that the national average price for a gallon of gas was $3.61 and climbing.) “The increase in gas prices over the last six months has pushed consumers to consider going electric, especially for younger generations,” said Greg Brannon, AAA’s director of Automotive Engineering and Industry Relations. Survey responses indicated that many people still have concerns about charging and access to charging facilities. (Link inserted by TRN)

Orlando Sentinel reports, “Dozens of cows on the roadway shut down Florida’s Turnpike in Osceola County [yesterday], after the truck that had been hauling the herd caught fire, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.” The driver pulled onto a shoulder and released the animals to allow them to escape the smoke and flames. Although the fire was quickly extinguished, the turnpike segment remained for several hours while stray cows were removed.
