Detroit-Windsor Tunnel Reopens To Canadian Non-Essential Travelers With Shots

The Detroit News reports, for the first time since March 2020, the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel reopened at midnight today to nonessential travelers from Canada, provided they have been vaccinated. The welcome development coincided with a general relaxation of crossing restrictions at US-Canada and US-Mexico land borders. “It will be great to see our customers again, and we offer our thanks for the patience shown as we continue to navigate through this global pandemic together,” said Neal Belitsky, president of the tunnel operating company. The article notes that an immediate surge of Canadian tourists and shoppers isn’t expected, since their government has adopted stringent COVID-19 testing requirements as a condition for reentry.

CFX's Visitor Toll Pass Program Is Back

The Points Guy website reports that the Central Florida Expressway Authority’s  Visitor Toll Pass™ program is back in operation after a hiatus brought on by COVID-19’s disruption of airline travel. Visitors who need to rent a car at the Orlando airport can once again get a temporary transponder that allows them to decline rental company toll payment services that, in the opinion of many travelers, come with hidden and exorbitant fees. The website notes that the program “is a win for travelers, of course, saving them more than 80% over the cost of using the car rental toll schemes. But it is also a win for the city of Orlando, the tourism community, the regional toll authority, and even the airport, which is the first place visitors experience when flying into or out of the region.”
