PennDOT Work Reservation System Aims To Reduce Backups And Safety Risks
AASHTO Journal reports, PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike are developing a Lane Reservation System that aims to minimize traffic congestion and safety concerns resulting from highway and bridge maintenance projects. The agencies plan to use various data sources — including FREEVAL-PA, a tool for analyzing work zone mobility and safety — to determine the most appropriate times for scheduling work projects. The system will also facilitate information sharing and help eliminate eliminate conflicts between nearby work projects.

AASHTO announced the opening of the registration portal for its 2021 Annual Meeting, which is scheduled for October 26 to October 30 in San Diego. The announcement states, the meeting “brings together experts from the public and private sector to share the latest in industry policy and innovation. Attendees get the opportunity to network with fellow transportation professionals and contribute to discussions on a wide range of issues facing the industry today and tomorrow.

The Transportation Research Board announced that its Conference on Advancing Transportation Equity has been rescheduled as a virtual event to take place on September 9, 10, 13, and 14, 2021, because of the recent outbreak of COVID-19 infections. Registration for the event is now open. “The conference will feature all areas of transportation practice and research, including those that address links between transportation and housing, telecommunications, health, policing, or economic development. Presentations will feature those working on the front lines of transportation equity and justice within community-based and non-profit organizations.”

TASS reports, “Russian authorities plan to launch an experiment, which envisages the free passage of electric cars on toll roads from 2022. According to a statement on the government’s website, the measure is contained in the Concept for the development of production and use of electric motor transport.” The government’s intention to increase support for both alternative fuel and electric vehicle production will reportedly be reflected new concession lending and leasing programs.
