Maine Turnpike Begins Public Meetings On Rate Hike Proposal
News Center Maine reports, the Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA) last night kicked off a series of public meetings on its proposed toll hike, which would be its first rate adjustment since 2012. MTA chief executive Peter Mills reportedly explained, “Recently, traffic on the Maine Turnpike has recovered and is nearing pre-pandemic levels. However, the loss of revenue during the pandemic combined with new bonding constraints make it infeasible to complete future capital plans without raising tolls or adjusting discounts.” Mills added that the cost of higher rates would be borne primarily by out-of-state motorists.
