Video enforcement pilot project enters new phase
WICHITA, Kan. – The Kansas Turnpike Authority’s video enforcement pilot project has reached a new milestone with violation statements being mailed earlier this week.
Customers who have used a video enforced electronic lane at a toll plaza without a compatible transponder (like K-TAG) will receive a mailed notice.
Drivers who receive a violation statement, should pay the bill as it keeps tolls lower for everyone. In the future, they should get a K-TAG or compatible transponder, or stop to pay at the toll booth. Those who choose to ignore the notice, and continue to use electronic lanes without a compatible device, are subject to higher tolls and potential penalties.
Customers who have questions about their toll violation statement should call customer service at 316-652-2652 Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
“We’ve been studying video enforcement for some time now and have learned a lot since our video enforcement pilot project began in late 2015,” said Steve Hewitt, KTA CEO. “We’re excited to begin this next phase that will lead to improved customer service in the lanes while helping keep tolls low.”
Currently, KTA uses video enforcement at its three mainline plazas located near the Oklahoma border (Southern Terminal mile marker 04), east Topeka (mile marker 183) and west Kansas City (Eastern Terminal mile marker 236). In the future, video enforcement will be implemented as needed to help improve the driving experience at other toll plazas.
