US House Dems Unveil A $1.5 Trillion Infrastructure Proposal
US House Democratic leaders today announced the release of HR 2, the “Moving Forward Act,” a $1.5 trillion bundle of measures to rebuild communities “with infrastructure and innovation that is smarter, safer, and made to last.” The resolution embraces the INVEST in America Act, which proposes “a nearly $500 billion investment to rebuild and reimagine the nation’s transportation infrastructure by fixing our crumbling roads and bridges, improving safety, reducing gridlock, and putting the U.S. on a path toward zero emissions from the transportation sector. . . . The INVEST in America Act is fueled by American workers and ingenuity thanks to strong Buy America provisions and labor protections.” A fact sheet summarizing the resolution’s provisions and other guides are available from the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

WPEC has an update on Florida DOT’s all-hands effort to repair and reopen the damaged Roosevelt Bridge in Stuart. “Nearly a week after crews found fallen concrete under the [bridge’s newest span], “crews are working around the clock to determine necessary repairs. The entire bridge may not be fully open for several weeks,” but FDOT hopes to accomplish a partial reopening soon. The article notes that while a nearby segment of the Florida Turnpike serves as a detour route, toll fees are being waived between Stuart and Port St. Lucie.

The Eno Center for Transportation announced the launch of a Wednesday afternoon webinar series, “Road to Recovery,” focused on helping transportation organizations and industry professionals adapt to conditions in the post-COVID world. The first discussion, “Behavioral Science 101: How Human Decision-Making Will Affect the Post-COVID World,” is scheduled for June 24, from 1:15 PM to 2:00 PM EDT, and will include the participation of Dr. Ashley Whillans, an assistant professor at the Harvard Business School.
