407 ETR Operator Contributes to Toronto's Recovery From COVID-19

The 407 ETR concession company announced this morning that it will donate $5.2 million (US$3.7 million) over three years to the greater Toronto United Way and the region’s hospitals to help alleviate the COVID-19 epidemic’s long-term impact on families. The company said it is making the donations on behalf of its customers, shareholders and employees. In a news release, the company’s chairman, David McFadden, said the board “has seen the clear need to respond in a meaningful way to the pandemic,” and it is pleased to contribute to recovery efforts.

Florida Bridge Authority Provides Some Relief For Toll Pass Customers

Boca Beacon reports, the Gasparilla Island (Florida) Bridge Authority board voted last week to extend the expiration dates of bridge passes in effect as of April 1 by six months, a measure intended to relieve the economic hardships of pass holders during COVID-19 epidemic. The article adds, “Traffic and revenue figures for the cumulative fiscal year 2020 were up four percent before the beach closures on March 20. . . . Since that date the bridge has seen a decrease of 50 percent in both traffic and revenue.”

Facebook Site Centered Around I-77 Express Opposition Is Folding

Cornelius Today reports on the demise of a Facebook site that once provided a rallying point for opponents of the North Carolina DOT-Cintra I-77 Express project. The site’s founder said it has reached the point where it has become “a vehicle for keyboard warriors to be nasty to one another.”
