Bay Bridge Bus Lane May Be an Attractive Idea, but It Could Worsen Congestion

San Francisco Chronicle looks at the complex proposal to set aside a bus-only lane on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Earlier this week, MTC executive Andrew Fremier told a bridge oversight committee that the scheme would actually slow traffic unless thousands of car commuters switched to buses, and more buses would be needed to accommodate that number of new riders. In spite of several other obstacles identified by staff, the committee reportedly urged further consideration of the plan, and a state lawmaker told the Chronicle he is considering legislation to create the bus lane.
