Column: Tolling Is the Only Way Indiana Can Finance I-70 Upgrades
Tribune-Star columnist Mark Bennett says the decision by Terre Haute, Indiana, school officials to route buses off of I-70 (even when they are carrying no students) is the latest sign that the interstate’s segment near the Indiana-Illinois border needs safety improvements, including more lanes. He notes that while an I-70, I-65 and I-94 improvement plan “stalled late last year, when Gov. Eric Holcomb decided not to implement tolls on those interstates during his time in office,” tolling is the only viable means of financing the multibillion-dollar level of upgrades needed in the corridor.
