Award-Winning App Helps PA Turnpike Improve Incident Response
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports on a GIS web application — Catch it Early, Act, Analyze and Review, or CAAR — developed by Pennsylvania Turnpike employees to improve their monitoring of and response to roadway incidents. The app, which received IBTTA recognition last week, collates data from multiple sources and presents information of critical importance to traffic managers. According to the article, over the first year of its deployment, the app has helped the turnpike reduce the average delay for accidents and other incidents from one-hour-46 minutes to one-hour-18 minutes.

MassLive.com reports, “MassDOT is asking for the public’s input for a project designed to address traffic concerns at the interchange of the Massachusetts Turnpike and Interstate 495.” The department will hold meetings tonight and tomorrow night “to present three refined alternatives to the interchange, as well as a newly-developed fourth concept,” and to gather public feedback.

TrafficTechnologyToday.com reports, “As part of its long-term preparations for the widespread use of autonomous vehicles (AVs), the operator of the 407 Express Toll Route (407 ETR), in partnership with 3M Canada, has started testing the use of 3M’s high-visibility pavement marking tapes optimized for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in the Greater Toronto Area. The initiative is part of the 407 ETR Living Labs program of innovation, promoting safety and next generation transportation, with the trials designed to ensure new technologies are implemented safely and effectively.”

Reuters reports, Spain’s Grupo ACS said yesterday it is considering increasing its majority stake in Hochtief to take advantage of a recent drop in Hochtief’s share value. Reuters notes that “ACS used Hochtief shares to partially finance the acquisition of a 49.99% stake in toll-road operator Abertis last year.”
