Louisiana Governor Promises Relief For Belle Chasse Bridge Toll System Complaints
In a video posted to social media, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry (R) said he is working with transportation officials and State Senator Pat Connick (R-8) to address grievances about the Belle Chasse Bridge toll system and charges incurred by the span’s customers. The governor expects to announce a relief plan “in the coming days.” He reportedly blamed the problems on his predecessor, Democrat John Bel Edwards.
During a September 19 Louisiana Senate Transportation Committee meeting, Plaquemines Parish residents and business owners aired a variety of complaints about Plenary Group’s tolling of the bridge, which started on May 14. After the meeting, Senator Connick, chair of the transportation panel, said he asked the state’s attorney general to investigate Plenary’s billing and customer service practices.
