Delaware Memorial Bridge Joint Replacement Project Will Start In September
The Delaware Memorial Bridge linking Delaware and New Jersey will undergo major preservation work from September 7 to November 24, the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) announced on august 10. “The Authority’s contractor, UHPC Solutions North America LLC, will perform extensive bridge joint replacement work across the two right lanes of the northbound structure.”
Forty-six bridge joints will be replaced, with “specialized Ultra High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) reconstruction adjoining each joint location.” A brief “Concrete Products” magazine article spotlights the UHPC solution.
The news release details anticipated traffic pattern changes and notes that drivers should expect delays on northbound trips into New Jersey.

“Getting caught on camera speeding through a construction zone or blowing past a school bus stop sign could cost Michigan motorists hundreds of dollars, but it won’t cost them points on their driver’s license,” Bridge Michigan reports. “A new law signed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer ensures automated traffic tickets can only result in fines in Michigan, where at least three school districts are already using stop arm cameras and the state Department of Transportation is developing similar technology for construction zones.”
Amid privacy concerns, supporters emphasize a key feature of the enforcement mechanism: “The technology can identify a vehicle’s license plate and its registered owner, but not necessarily the person who was behind the wheel.”
Meanwhile, a 2024 law authorizing MDOT to develop a camera-based speed enforcement program in construction zones is still under development, possibly to be instituted next year.
“’MDOT has never been an enforcement agency, but because of the way the legislation was written, we’re responsible for standing up the entire program, including distributing the warnings and fines,’ spokesperson Jocelyn Garza told Bridge Michigan.”

TxDOT announced the release of its new DriveTexas app (available to download on Apple and Google devices) that features real-time travel insights.
“The app brings together critical roadway and travel information on one easy-to-use platform that is updated by Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) crews in real-time. This tool is not only helpful in planning daily travel around construction, traffic, and road closures. It’s also an incredibly useful tool during severe weather situations.” The app includes links to traffic camera feeds, evacuation route planning, and roadside assistance resources.
While the app is new, the DriveTexas.org website already is attracting visitors. Daily website usage peaked at 79,000 users during flood events last month, compared with a typical average of 2,200.

The westbound exit and entrance ramps at the Exit 81 toll plaza 81 on the Ohio Turnpike will close for 30 days starting August 12, WTOL News reports.
The closure will accommodate crews painting overpasses at the toll plaza. Drivers are advised to follow prescribed detours and allow additional time for their trips through Elmore, Woodville and Gibsonburg.
