ViaPlus Secures Key End-to-End MLFF Contracts for Free-Flow Toll Systems in India

ViaPlus, the VINCI Highways subsidiary providing a range of smart mobility solutions, announced it has secured two significant end-to-end tolling contracts in India. The awards were made under the authority of the India Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), the state-controlled entity responsible for national implementation and management of electronic toll collection technology, including the FASTag program.

Under the first contract, ViaPlus will install and operate a free-flow system in Daulatpura, Rajasthan, on the Delhi–Jaipur Expressway. Spanning 242 kilometers (150 miles) and carrying approximately ten million vehicles annually, the expressway links the Delhi National Capital Territory with Jaipur, a city of over four million inhabitants.

The second contract’s scope involves the installation and operation of free-flow toll processing technologies along the elevated Delhi–Faridabad Skyway at Badarpur. Located in the national capital of New Delhi, the site is situated on one of northern India’s busiest corridors and serves hundreds of thousands of daily commuters.

At both facilities, ViaPlus will deploy its Alpha® back-office platform while collaborating with Sidra Systems on roadside systems integration. The company’s Sightline® image review technology will facilitate the processing of license plate transactions for vehicles without FASTag.

ViaPlus notes, “Collectively, these projects reinforce ViaPlus’ expanding presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing tolling markets and underscore its ability to manage complex, high-volume toll environments with speed, accuracy, and reliability. In 2025, ViaPlus’ Alpha® platform — deployed across India — processed over 2.7 billion of the country’s [ETC] transactions, representing 40% of all toll transactions nationwide.”

Long a provider of toll solutions in India, ViaPlus is now supporting the country’s ambitious transition to all-electronic, barrier-free toll collection.

Registration For Gordie Howe Bridge Personal ETC Accounts Begins

A March 31 announcement by the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) and Bridging North America (BNA) is another sign that the Gordie Howe International Bridge is advancing to a spring opening.

The bridge authority is now accepting personal account registrations for the Breakaway ETC program. Participants will receive a tag — three types are available — and maintain a prepaid account with a minimum balance to automatically pay tolls. Standard per-crossing passenger vehicle rates —  CAD 8.00 or USD 5.75  — will be discounted by 25 percent — to CAD 6.00 or USD 4.35 — for Breakaway users. Vehicles with tags will be able to use any open toll lane, although no lanes will be barrier-free.

As an inducement to registration, WDBA will give the first 1,000 account holders a commemorative hockey card and reduce the minimum required account deposit from $50.00 to $20.00. Registrations are accepted online at https://gordiehoweinternationalbridge.com.

Business account registration, which started last month, remains open. WDBA is planning to hold public information meetings where drivers can learn more about Breakaway.

Expressway Volume Metrics Reflect Tampa Bay Region's Boom

The Tampa Bay metro area’s growth over the past decade is showing in population numbers, economic expansion, development activity, and the volume of traffic the local tollway authority serves.

Between 2020 and 2025, the counties within the region absorbed an additional 497,000 residents. Hillsborough County’s population alone is projected to exceed two million by 2050. Job growth in Tampa’s central business district has surged by 32 percent since 2013, and nearly all the jobs in the district are filled by commuters. Tourism attracts 28.2 million visitors each year to the region.

The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) notes that the rapid expansion is reflected in Lee Roy Selmon Expressway metrics. Traffic volume on the facility, the “primary regional gateway to downtown [Tampa],” has increased by 80 percent over the past decade. That means the authority is “now serving 1 million more unique customers than we did in 2019.” The burgeoning service demands are the reason THEA plans to invest $1 billion in system improvements over the next ten years.

New Hampshire Governor And State Trooper Escort Help Rescue Toll Plaza Crash Victim

Yesterday, around noon, a single vehicle crash occurred at the Bedford Toll Plaza on New Hampshire’s Everett Turnpike. Police reported that a 2026 Lucid Gravity struck the plaza for a reason still to be determined. The luxury electric vehicle then caught fire, trapping the driver and lone occupant.

Fortunately, Governor Kelly Ayotte and her entourage happened upon the scene, and a trooper assigned to her security detail managed to rescue the driver by pulling him out of a window. The trooper was assisted by the governor and other passersby. The 51-year-old driver was hospitalized with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

By late afternoon, some northbound lanes of the turnpike segment had reopened, but at least one lane remained closed. Firefighters had to use a special blanket to extinguish the vehicle fire.

The toll plaza, which is undergoing conversion to ORT, has been the scene of several serious crashes. Last Sunday, a fiery collision occurred in the southbound lanes, causing one injury. Impaired driving is a suspected cause of that incident.
