North Carolina Initiates Second Round Of EV Charging Station Grants
North Carolina DOT has started accepting applications for a second round of NEVI Program funding. On March 27, it issued a request for proposals to firms interested in applying for grants to procure, build, and operate 16 electric vehicle charging stations on the state’s alternative fuel corridors (AFVs), which include I-40, I-77, and US 17. Proposals are due on or before midnight, May 11.
NCDOT estimates it will take three years to complete charging station deployment on AFVs, after which it launch an implementation phase focused on locating Level 2 chargers in rural and underserved communities.
North Carolina received a total of $109 million in NEVI Program funding.

Cash tolling will officially cease on all National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) motorways and expressways after today, March 31. The government is converting cash lanes at all 1,150 toll plazas to ETC lanes and urging motorists to use a FASTag transponder. Only one other payment method, the contactless, QR-code-based Unified Payments Interface (UPI), will be supported. UPI users will pay 1.5 times the transponder rate.
Any driver submitting a cash payment in an ETC lane will be charged double the applicable toll rate. Media articles suggest that drivers unprepared for the payment conversion could be denied entry at some toll points.
NHAI is transitioning away from cash collection to expedite transactions and reduce the toll plaza backups that many drivers encounter. It also expects to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and improve operating efficiency and transparency.
