TRB Will Host Webinar On Advancing State DOT Connected and Automated Vehicle Programs

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) has scheduled a webinar for the afternoon of February 12 titled, “Six Steps to Advance State DOT Connected and Automated Vehicle Programs.”

The event will highlight lessons learned from a first-of-its-kind nationwide peer exchange of connected and automated vehicle (CAV) program personnel from 39 state DOTs. It will present findings from the NCHRP 20-24(147) project, Identify Best Practices for Automated Driving Systems and Other Emerging Technologies, with a focus on six cross-cutting priorities for action and practical approaches for implementation. Topics covered will include “organizational readiness, cross-state coordination, and collaboration with original equipment manufacturers, vendors, and data consumers. Presenters will share how these priorities can help state DOTs and their public and private partners advance safety and mobility goals and overcome common barriers to successful technology deployment.”

TRB notes that the rapid evolution of CAV technologies is requiring state DOTs to continually adapt programs, policies, and partnerships.

Scheduled presenters include John Kaliski, Cambridge Systematics; Philip Castro, Utah DOT; Sarah Searcy, North Carolina DOT; and Daniela Bremmer, Washington State DOT.

Thirty-Vehicle Pile-Up Occurs On Indiana Toll Road During Snowstorm

A 30-vehicle crash occurred yesterday afternoon on the Indiana Toll Road near mile marker 94 in Elkhart County. Snowfall was heavy and visibility limited in the area of the pile-up.

Around 4:00 PM, there was a three-vehicle collision that police believe triggered a series of subsequent crashes. When they arrived on the scene, they found cars and commercial trucks in the eastbound lanes and the center median, and at least one vehicle that had crossed into the westbound lanes before landing in a ditch.

Several people received non-life-threatening injuries. Traffic had to be diverted off the tollway until about 8:00 PM last night.
