DFW Motorists Could See Express Lanes Toll Rates Surge During Soccer Tournament

This summer’s World Cup Tournament matches will likely drive up the dynamic toll rates charged on the Dallas-Fort Worth megaplex’s TEXpress managed lanes network.

The region’s MPO, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), estimates that at least one million, and possibly as many as two million people will be drawn to the nine events taking place at an Arlington stadium. NCTCOG will operate express lanes in one direction on match days and use that capacity to prevent congestion on other routes. The increase in volume means toll rates will likely be in the “rush hour” range of 45 and 90 cents per mile but could go higher.

NCTCOG is already encouraging local residents to drive or telecommute on match days. With federal financial support, it will implement expanded transit service during the tournament, but it wants as many bus and train seats as possible left open for international visitors.
