Florida Increases Toll Suspensions In Preparation For Hurricane Ian's Arrival
WOFL reports, yesterday afternoon, as Hurricane Ian grew in strength and approached the Florida coast, the state extended its indefinite suspension of tolling to more highways, including the 125-mile Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) system. The Florida’s Turnpike mainline, I-4 Express, Osceola Parkway, Poinciana Parkway, Seminole Expressway and Wekiva Parkway were among the facilities covered by Governor Ron DeSantis’ updated suspension order. A Florida DOT web page has regularly updated information about the status of suspensions. WOFL also reports that FDOT has activated emergency shoulder use plans to help with the flow of traffic on roads and highways impacted by the storm and consequent evacuations.
CFX announced temporary closures of its headquarters and E-PASS Customer Service Walk-In Center due to the storm emergency.

Florida DOT and Florida’s Turnpike announced that Hurricane Ian has forced the indefinite postponement of design public information events for the Sawgrass Expressway (SR 869) Widening project. Meeting sessions set for September 27 (virtual) and September 29 (in-person) will be rescheduled at a later date.

The American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) announced that 2022-2023 officers were elected during its annual business meeting at the association’s convention in Nashville. Paula Hammond, a WSP USA senior vice president, will hold the chair. Also elected were Tim Duit, president of Duit Construction (senior vice chair); Jeff Nelson, president of David Nelson Construction (first vice chair); and Tom Hill, of Jackson Hole, WY, (treasurer). Elected to serve as vice chairs were: Mike Glezer, CEO, Wagman, Inc.; Michael Vecellio, vice president, Vecellio Group; David Harwood, senior vice president, Terracon; Lisa Robert, CEO, RS&H; Kevin Cornish, senior vice president, T.Y. Lin; Tony Fassino, a Caterpillar Inc., executive; Randy Lake, COO, CRH; Tom O’Grady, president, HNTB; Don Graul, CEO, The Branch Group; and Dave Zanetell, president, Kraemer North America.
