Washington State DOT Gets Kudos For New Toll System Website

KIRO Radio traffic reporter Chris Sullivan reports, “Washington’s Good to Go tolling system got an upgrade earlier this summer, and now the first bills and statements are coming out. I received my first Good to Go statement via email on Saturday [September 18].” Sullivan was impressed with how user friendly the new Good To Go! website is. “I was able to check my balance and my tolling history, and make changes to my notifications [and billing option] without much effort at all, and that’s what this upgrade was all about.” WSDOT tolling official Patty Michaud tells Sullivan, “When we designed the system, we took feedback from customers through the years, and we did our best to center that design around the customer experience to improve it,” adding that the department’s ultimate goal was to enable the two million Good-To-Go! users to get most of their questions answered online rather than having to phone the customer service call center.

Irish Court Levies Over $240,000 In Fines Against Sixteen Habitual Toll Scofflaws

Irish Examiner reports, yesterday, sixteen M50 toll road scofflaws — all of whom failed to appear in court — were sentenced in absentia to pay fines that ranged from €7,000 (about US$8,200) to €25,000 (about US$29,300). Most of the defendants were passenger vehicle drivers responsible for “just over 100 and almost 500” unpaid transactions. “Thousands of warning letters were sent to the motorists, the court was told.” The article notes that a fine of up to €5,000 and a sentence of up to six months imprisonment can be imposed for each criminal charge of non-payment, but the M50 operator typically prosecutes only habitual scofflaws.
