Hurricane Sally Impacts AL and FL Toll Facilities

WVUE and KATC report, the Beach Express toll bridge and the Perdido Pass bridge remain closed until further notice. The article notes that the hurricane brought the area around Orange Beach, Alabama, “flooding, extensive power outages, structural damage, wide-range beach erosion, fallen trees,” and many road and bridge closures.

Alabama Political Reporter notes that Sally was “the biggest hurricane to hit the state’s Gulf Coast since Ivan in 2004.”

Pensacola News Journal reports that the Bob Sikes toll bridge in Escambia County, Florida, remains structurally sound but suffered damage that will be repaired over the next couple weeks.

Orlando Sentinel reports, Pensacola, Florida, and surrounding Escambia County suffered significant hurricane damage. Governor Ron DeSantis told reporters that FDOT has closed six bridges in the area, including the Pensacola Bay (Three Mile) Bridge, which sustained some structural damage.

A Florida DOT road advisory notes that the Garcon Point Bridge has reopened to all but heavy-duty commercial trucks.
